GRIFTER - ALBUM REVIEW

Grifter is a Hard Rock/Classic Rock Band from the UK

The members are

Ollie - Vocals/Guitar
Phil - Bass
Foz - Drums

Grifter have been going a fair while in the UK picking up fans wherever they play and go. Now after a string of acclaimed EP's they have released their brilliant debut full length album.

Grifter take influence from the 70’s Hard Rock/Classic Rock bands such as Zeppelin, Sabbath, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and mix it up with a great modern Stoner/Blues Rock vibe ala Clutch Style.

But they are not copycats but masters of mixing the genres together brilliantly well in true Grifter style. They released their long-awaited debut album last year to popular acclaim amongst the UK Rock Scene.

And its praise justified indeed. Their S/T debut album is an 11 song and 40 minute blast of hard rocking Stoner Blues Rock riffs.

These guys know how to play a mean good time hard-rocking riff that the old masters would be proud to call their own.

The first song “Good Day For Bad News” sets the tone of this hugely entertaining, head-banging and high voltage thrill ride. The riffs come thick and fast with a great blues rock feel to them. Grifter throw in superb tongue ‘n’ cheek lyrics to show they have a great sense of humour. Especially when being kicked about.

If you’re a fan of the above bands but with a modern Stoner Blues Rock twist then you will love this album from the word go. It’s superbly produced and played by all involved.

The great songs just keep on coming thick and fast with great tracks like “Alabama Hotpocket”, “Young Blood, Old Veins” and “Bucktooth Woman”.

These guys really do show a great sense of humour littered through out their music as they have lyrics to make you laugh out loud as well. Grifter are in the business of making sure the listener is entertained from the word go. And they succeed on every level. All of Grifter’s songs have a great story to tell that will have you hooked from the first listen.

I love bands like Grifer as they pay homage to brilliant bands past and present but do it in their own great way. They might not be re-inventing the wheel but when the music is so damn good you just don’t care. You just fall in love with the hypnotic riffs that Grifter play to perfection.

People might think this is too old school for them but its not. If you’re a fan of Clutch and other bands of that ilk you won’t be left out as they blend in a healthy dose of modern Stoner Blues Rock as well. This will have you shaking your boogie in no time.

These guys are getting a well deserved reputation in the UK that it’s going to catch on the international scene in no time. So much so they are legendary stoners Orange Goblin’s main support on their April 2012 UK Tour.

This is a gig I am going to and when I am there I will be down near in the front row rocking my heart out as I am truly thankful the world has bands like Grifter.

This album is simply superb and will leave a huge smile on your face. It has more good time riffs than most bands can produce in a whole career. And it’s another reason why I rate this album so highly. Simply Brilliant.

This album is available to buy from here and other good stockists. If you want to check out how great these guys are then check out their BandCamp Page where you can download their previous EPs on Pay Anything You Want Type Deal.
