Desertfest Belgium - 'The Fine Print': The Progerians "Out Off the Abyss" Premiere

By: Victor Van Ommen

The Progerians

So it’s day five of this feature. Up until now we’ve listened to some acid jams, burly rock, out-there space-prog, and yesterday we had a band that epitomized the word stoner. By the looks of it, the bands listed on Desertfest Belgium’s poster in fine print are all over the place and complement the Goatsnake’s and Dozer’s of this world nicely. The only thing missing from this feature is a local band – by country, not city – and that’s what we’re going to do today.

The Progerians have named themselves after a pretty nasty disease which should hint at the extremity of their music. They’ll release their debut LP on October 15th named “The Fabulous” and we here at The Sludgelord are lucky enough to be able to premiere one of the songs from that very album! It’s called “Out of the Abyss” and its split into two movements. The first of which is a slow, instrumental plod that dives into some doomy depths which will speak to those who like a heavy atmosphere. At more or less the half way point, The Progerians take a turn that’s completely unexpected, travelling down a path that’s more hardcore than metal and features Danny M (Angel Crew) on vocals. That these two movements are entirely unrelated yet somehow work together as a song is a sign that their album might have some surprises. So come check out their show on Saturday at the Canyon Stage for a taste. Game time: 15:20.
